Understanding Hypermobile Bodies

Sharon provides comprehensive neuromuscular physiotherapy for patients whose bodies work differently than conventional medical training assumes. Her approach recognises that hypermobile tissues require fundamentally different movement strategies, particularly when autonomic dysfunction and neurodivergent presentations compound proprioceptive challenges.

Movement That Starts With the Nervous System

A core part of Sharon’s approach is retraining neuromuscular control - helping the brain and body work together more effectively to create safe, coordinated movement. She supports patients in rewiring movement patterns, restoring muscle activation, and rebuilding trust in how their body moves.

For those experiencing proprioceptive challenges or disconnection from their body, Sharon uses interoceptive retraining to help clients feel and activate the right muscles at the right time - improving movement confidence and coordination.

Supporting the Myofascial System & Force Transmission

Sharon also works with the myofascial system - the connective tissue network that helps the body distribute load and maintain structural balance. By improving force transmission and load-sharing, she helps reduce strain on vulnerable joints and improve movement efficiency. Her treatments often include myofascial release, breath-led movement, clinical Pilates, and techniques that modulate tension and support whole-body integration.

Therapy Adapted for Autonomic and Neurodivergent Needs

Many of Sharon’s clients experience symptoms related to autonomic dysfunction, such as POTS or fatigue. She modifies interventions to account for standing tolerance, heart rate, and energy limitations. Her sessions are carefully adapted to support autonomic sensitivity, and may include heart rate monitoring, compression strategies, and movement approaches that prioritise pacing and recovery.

She also adapts communication and session structure for neurodivergent clients, recognising the impact of sensory processing and executive function differences. The goal is always to make therapy feel manageable, and respectful of each person’s nervous system.

Therapeutic Philosophy & Lived Understanding

Sharon brings both clinical expertise and lived understanding to her practice. She deeply understands the frustration of feeling dismissed, the uncertainty around movement, and the exhaustion of managing a body that doesn’t follow the rules. This dual perspective informs her patient-centred approach and validates the complex experiences of people whose bodies require different movement strategies than conventional rehabilitation assumes.

She prioritises education, collaboration, and patient autonomy - creating space for patients to explore movement without fear or judgment. Rather than pushing through pain or instability, Sharon helps clients discover their Goldilocks Zone - the ‘just right’ space where movement feels stable, supportive, and sustainable.

Sharon’s goal is not just to reduce symptoms, but to help each person rebuild trust in their own body and feel equipped to manage it on their own terms.
