Dr Cristina Pelkas is a Consultant Rheumatologist with an interest in hereditary connective tissue disorders, hypermobility and persistent pain conditions. Alongside her clinical work, she is undertaking a PhD in Sjögren’s disease.
Within Biio’s Connective Tissue Disorder diagnostic pathway, Cristina works in a dedicated diagnostic capacity, providing structured assessments for individuals with suspected hereditary connective tissue disorders, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders.
Cristina brings particular sensitivity to conditions that have historically been difficult to define or under-resourced within typically rheumatology settings. She has developed a deep appreciation of the challenges faced by those with complex, multi-system symptoms that do not always fit neatly within established diagnostic categories. This perspective informs a careful, attentive approach to assessing complex connective tissue disorders.
Her approach is grounded, thoughtful, and collaborative. She recognises that many patients presenting for connective tissue assessment have experienced long and often uncertain diagnostic journeys. Cristina focuses on providing clarity where possible, helping patients better understand their symptoms and how they relate to underlying conditions.
