General Practitioner — Connective Tissue Diagnostic

A structured diagnostic role for a General Practitioner with an interest in connective tissue disorders, working under the supervision of biio.'s consultant rheumatologists within a defined hEDS/HSD diagnostic pathway.
Location

Renumeration
$250–$550 per hour

biio. is an integrated multidisciplinary clinical service specialising in connective tissue disorders, dysautonomia, and the complex presentations that surround them. Our Connective Tissue Pathway supports patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD), and the autonomic, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and pain comorbidities that travel with them.

We are seeking a General Practitioner with a strong interest in connective tissue disorders to join our Connective Tissue Pathway as a Specialist Diagnostic Consultant, working under the supervision of biio.'s consultant rheumatologists within a defined diagnostic pathway.

These patients have been dismissed as "just flexible." Referred for anxiety when their nervous system was overwhelmed. Told their joint pain was growing pains or postural. They wait an average of fifteen years for a diagnosis in Australia. The diagnostic criteria are explicit. The pathway is well-defined. What's missing is the clinical workforce to apply them.

You arrive at each consultation with a complete pre-workup already done — Beighton score documentation, structured symptom history, validated screening tools, family history mapped, prior pathology and imaging collated in biio.'s digital workspace, the biiography. You arrive informed, not catching up. Complex cases and vEDS-suspect presentations are escalated to the supervising rheumatologist via a defined pathway, with peer review and structured templates built into every consultation.

You'll work alongside biio.'s consultant rheumatologists — Drs Pelkas, Gunaratne, Owens, Neuen, Raman and Kamalaraj — with physiotherapy, psychology, nurse practitioners and dietetics integrated into ongoing care. Correspondence and coordination are handled by our support team.

Most uniquely, you will change lives here. The fifteen-year diagnostic delay is the single largest preventable harm in this patient population. A GP trained, supervised and supported to apply the criteria correctly doesn't just shorten a wait — they return years of life to people who had given up on being believed.

Engagement is via contractor agreement, with flexible sessional commitment and competitive remuneration reflecting the specialist nature of this work.
